Herbalife Afresh Energy Drink Mix: Flavours, Caffeine and How to Prepare It

What Is Herbalife Afresh?

Afresh Energy Drink Mix is a powdered tea drink from Herbalife. You stir a small amount into hot or cold water, and Herbalife India suggests drinking it in place of your usual tea or coffee, either to start the morning or as an afternoon drink.

Every flavour starts from the same base: maltodextrin, orange pekoe black tea extract, green tea extract and caffeine powder sourced from coffee bean powder. Herbalife India describes the drink as containing natural sources of caffeine. What changes from one flavour to the next is the flavouring, the sweetener, and one or two smaller ingredients.

You may also see the name “herbal tea concentrate”. Herbalife India’s web addresses for the range still use it. On the pack and on Herbalife India’s product pages, the name is Afresh Energy Drink Mix.

The Seven Afresh Flavours Sold in India

This catalogue lists seven flavours. Kashmiri Kahwa comes in a 40 g pack with 40 servings. The other six come in 50 g packs with 50 servings.

  • Afresh Kashmiri Kahwa, 40 g is the only flavour with saffron on its ingredient list, and the only one sweetened with sucralose. Its flavouring is listed as natural and nature-identical.
  • Afresh Lemon, 50 g adds citric acid as an acidity regulator and names no sweetener.
  • Afresh Elaichi, 50 g is sweetened with fructose. Cardamom itself is not on the list. The elaichi taste comes from nature-identical flavouring substances.
  • Afresh Ginger, 50 g is sweetened with fructose and uses a nature-identical flavouring substance. Ginger root is not listed.
  • Afresh Peach, 50 g has the same printed ingredient list as Lemon, with citric acid and no named sweetener. No peach fruit or juice is listed.
  • Afresh Cinnamon, 50 g is sweetened with fructose and has the lowest total sugars of the three fructose flavours.
  • Afresh Natural Tulsi, 50 g has the shortest list of the seven: the shared base plus natural flavouring substances, with no sweetener and no acidity regulator. Tulsi leaf itself is not named.

Each Product page shows the full ingredient list and the nutrition label for that flavour.

How to Prepare Afresh

Herbalife India’s directions are the same for all seven flavours:

  1. Mix 1 g of Afresh with 160 ml of hot or cold water.
  2. Do not have more than three servings in a day.
  3. Do not have more than 500 ml of prepared drink in a day.

Three servings at 160 ml each come to 480 ml, which sits inside the 500 ml limit. Herbalife India also suggests infusing Afresh with your favourite berries or citrus fruit.

The serving is given in grams. Neither the pack nor Herbalife India’s product page gives a spoon measure, so if you see a teaspoon amount elsewhere, it did not come from the Indian pack.

How Much Caffeine Is in Afresh?

The label gives 40 mg of caffeine per 1 g serving, and that figure is the same on all seven flavours. The ingredient block on each pack is marked “CONTAINS CAFFEINE. High Caffeine: 40 mg/160 ml”.

At the pack’s limit of three servings a day, that comes to 120 mg of caffeine from Afresh.

You may find other caffeine figures and serving sizes for Afresh online. Go by the pack you hold. Afresh is not the only Herbalife product that lists caffeine; the caffeine question on our FAQ names the others.

Nutrition Per Serving

Every Afresh label gives the same core figures for a 1 g serving: 3.52 kcal of energy, 0.05 g of protein, 0.83 g of carbohydrate, 0.00 g of total fat, 1.00 mg of sodium and 40.00 mg of caffeine. Only the sugars differ by flavour.

Sugar and Sweetener by Flavour

Flavour Sweetener on the ingredient list Total sugars per serving Added sugars per serving
Kashmiri Kahwa Sucralose 0.51 g 0.11 g
Lemon None named 0.71 g 0.00 g
Elaichi Fructose 0.59 g 0.11 g
Ginger Fructose 0.61 g 0.11 g
Peach None named 0.61 g 0.00 g
Cinnamon Fructose 0.52 g 0.11 g
Natural Tulsi None named 0.51 g 0.00 g

None of the seven is sugar-free, because every label shows some total sugars. Lemon, Peach and Natural Tulsi show 0.00 g of added sugars. The Kashmiri Kahwa pack states that it contains sucralose, a non-caloric sweetener, and its label still shows 0.11 g of added sugars.

Does Afresh Contain Salt (Namak)?

Salt is not on the ingredient list of any of the seven flavours, and none of them names sodium chloride. Every label still declares 1 mg of sodium per 1 g serving. So salt is not an added ingredient, but the drink is not sodium-free either.

Is Afresh Vegetarian?

Yes. All seven packs carry the green vegetarian mark. Afresh has no allergen line on Herbalife India’s product pages or in this catalogue. The pack is labelled a Proprietary Food Product.

How to Store Afresh

The storage text is the same on every flavour:

Store with the lid tightly closed, in a cool, dry place, away from sunlight. Keep out of reach of children. Recommended to consume the product within 30 days once the canister is opened.

Who Afresh Is Not For

The pack caution reads:

Not recommended for children, pregnant or lactating women, or persons sensitive to caffeine.

Each serving has 40 mg of caffeine, so the caution applies to every flavour, including the ones with no sweetener.

Choosing a Flavour

Kashmiri Kahwa is the one to look at if you want saffron, or if a smaller 40 g pack suits you. Lemon, Peach and Natural Tulsi name no sweetener. Elaichi, Ginger and Cinnamon are sweetened with fructose. Whichever you pick, the serving, the caffeine and the daily limit stay the same.
